Independence Day #233 - An Essay

30 June 2009

"An essayist is a lucky person who has found a way to discourse without

being interrupted.".Charles Poore

It is the Fourth of July once again fellow citizens! That is not the

proper title for it. For 233 years it has justifiably been labeled

INDEPENDENCE DAY fellow "citizens" in celebration of our becoming a free and

liberty loving independent people, free of monarchies, dictatorships and

plutocratic, elitist leaders telling us what to do!......????

A few years ago, being the rabble rouser I am, I took a survey on this day

at our local Court House square asking people what this day represented?

Thanks to Providence (?), some people knew the correct answer.

I had some very surprising, incorrect responses, "it was the day we beat

Japan in Europe", "it was the day Black people became free", "it was the day

George Washington was born", "it was the day fireworks were invented", etc.

(no joke!) I asked, "Why is it a legal holiday? Several people said it was

to give working people a day off in the summertime!

It is not a day just for barbecues, beer and burgers! Fireworks are

great, reminding us there were many "fireworks" to win our LIBERTY by the

grace of PROVIDENCE...you know, some of us call it GOD! Many good people

sacrificed everything to make this day possible! Many more have been

sacrificing ever since for this day to continue!

The first citizens in 1776 had the courage to take a stand for their and

OUR liberty, declared themselves traitors to give us an Independence Day.

How many of their words in their declaration are you acquainted with? Do

you ever stop to consider what would have happened to them if they were

captured...or had lost the War for Independence fighting the most powerful

Army and Navy on Earth?

On 26 October 1775, British King George 3rd stepped out of his 24 foot

long gold carriage (not US King George I or II) decreeing in Parliment,

"That rabble will be hung until dead!" We the people owe our first citizens

more than we have honored them to date!

Our Founders: politicians, soldiers and common citizens gave us a

Constitution that has been the envy and inspiration for millions around the

world and copied many times by new nations. Our dedicated "public servants"

of today ignore or manipulate it at the drop of a speech on the TV boob

tube! For 60 years, I have researched and diligently tried to justify how

any citizen, politician, bureaucrat or jurist can justify any law, rule or

regulation not found in the Constitution!

Judges who state, "The Constitution says what we say it says" are

prevaricators, procrastinators, politicians or have not been in the game of

the USA and we the people. They have been warming the "bench" for too long!

Like the playbook in baseball, the Constitution says what its author

"umpires" stated. It does not say anyone can play games with it!

"A Constitution is a thing antecedent to a Government and a Government is

only the creature of a Constitution. The Constitution of a country is not

the act of its Government, but of the people constituting a

Government."..Thomas Paine, (1757-1809), The Rights of Man, 1791.

"The American Constitution is, so far as I can see, the most wonderful

work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of

man."..William Ewart Gladstone, (1809-1898), British Parliamentarian.

"The Constitution of the United States is to receive a reasonable

interpretation of its language, and its powers, keeping in view the objects

and purposes, for which those powers were conferred. By a reasonable

interpretation, we mean, that in case the words are susceptible of two

different senses, the one strict, the other more enlarged, that should be

adopted, which is most consonant with the apparent objects and intent of the

Constitution."....Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833.

Our Constitution specifically relates to a republican form of government

(Platos Republic) ignored by today's Republicans and Democrat manipulators

and Jurists who play God! It never mentions democracy or political parties.

A democracy and a Constitutional Republic are not "one and the same". In a

Democracy, a powerful minority can overrule the individual and the majority.

In a Republic, it is every individual that is the power in government...The

Rebirth of America, the Arthur DeMoss Foundation. The USA was created for

the people, not for the political parties!

"In a democracy, the majority of the citizens is capable of exercising the

most cruel oppressions upon the minority"...Edmund Burke (1729-1797), 1790,

British Parliamentarian.

"Democracy: in which you say what you like and do what you are

told.".Gerald Barry (1899-1968), English Journalist.

"Western democracy, as it functions today, is diluted Nazism or Fascism.

At best it is merely a cloak to hide the Nazi and Fascist tendencies of

imperialism.".Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948).

"Remember, democracy never lasts long, it soon wastes, exhausts, and

murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit

suicide.".John Adams, 1814.

"The Constitution ought to be the standard of construction for the laws,

and that wherever there is an evident opposition, the laws ought to give

place to the Constitution. But this doctrine is not deducible from any

circumstance peculiar to the plan of convention, but from the general theory

of a limited Constitution."....Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 81, 1788.

"A government of laws and not of men.". John Adams (1735-1826)

"The blessed Religion revealed in the word of God will remain an eternal

and awful monument to prove that the best Institutions may be abused by

human depravity; and that they may even, in some instances be made

subservient to the vilest purposes. Should hereafter those incited by the

lust of power and prompted by the Supineness or venality of their

Constituents, overleap the known barriers of this Constitution and violate

the unalienable rights of humanity: it will only serve to shew, that no

compact among men (however provident in its construction and sacred in its

ratification) can be pronounced everlasting an inviolable, and if I may so

express myself, that no Wall of words, that no mound of parchment can be so

formed as to stand against the sweeping torrent of boundless ambition on the

side, aided by the sapping current of corrupted morals on the

other."....George Washington, fragments of the draft, First Inaugural

Address, April 1789.

At this time of year, I have viewed the excellent films 1776 and John

Adams based on the books by the Pulitzer

Prize Historian David McCullough. If you have never read these books or

viewed the films you are missing some great movies that are far more than

just another documentary, they are high adventure, romance with award

winning acting.

Both books are available as films in DVD and as talking

books on cassette tape for the blind and physically handicapped like my self

from our great Library of Congress. (Our lawmakers should take advantage of

the Library of Congress named for them! 1776, is a "tabletop" edition of

beautiful reproductions of famous paintings and maps.

The Continental Army and Navy officers and noncoms in that war for

Independence faced the same challenges of officers and noncoms today.

Politicians of the time argued over everything including the Declaration of

Independence and Constitution, just like today's politicians.

The difference was it related to independence, individual liberty and

establishing a new nation, personally receiving little or no compensation

for their work. It was a miracle they accomplished so much!

There are days that it would be a miracle if politicians of today accomplished

anything! I suspect our Founders accomplished so much because there was

no political party influence in creating the Declaration of Independence or Constitution!

In 1796, when 1st President George Washington was leaving office he said

to his VP, 2nd President John Adams he feared the rise of political parties

(Federalists and Republicans) in our country, Adams agreed.

Yes, the books and films I relate to are about history...our history all

but ignored in our "government" schools over the last two generations of our

citizens.

"Every child in America should be acquainted with his own country. He

should read books that furnish him with ideas that will be useful to him in

life and practice. As soon as he opens his lips, he should rehearse the

history of his own country."....Noah Webster, On the Education of Youth in

America, 1788

Do you enjoy reading great quotations by famous people, past and present?

There are hundreds of thousands in book collections. One collection is that

of early US citizens published every day on the Internet at Patriot Post. I

am amazed at the commonsense wisdom of those who preceded us leaving us a

legacy, a great heritage. Could the lack of commonsense in the District of

Corruption be our real problem?

"But of all the views of this law none is more important, none more

legitimate, than that of rendering the people the safe, as they are the

ultimate, guardians of their own liberty. For this purpose the reading in

the first stage, where they will receive their whole education, is proposed,

as has been said, to be chiefly historical. History by apprising them of

the past will enable them to judge of the future; it will avail them of the

experience of other times and other nations; it will qualify them as judges

of the actions and designs of men; it will enable them to know ambition

under every disguise it may assume; and knowing it, to defeat its

views."....Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 14, 1781.

"A nation that does not remember what it was yesterday, does not know what

it is today, nor what it is trying to do. We are trying to do a futile

thing if we do not know where we came from or what we have been about.".28th

President Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924).

"To believe that what has not occurred in history will not occur at all is

to argue disbelief in the dignity of man.".Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869-1948).

The Life of Mohandas K. Gandhi by Louis Fischer, 1950.

"If men could learn from history, what lessons it might teach us! But

passion and party blind our eyes, and the light which experience gives is a

lantern on the stern which shines only on the waves behind us!".Samuel

Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), Table Talk, 1835.

"It is the duty of every good citizen to use all the opportunities which

occur to him, for preserving documents relating to the history of our

country."....Thomas Jefferson, letter to Hugh P. Taylor, October 4, 1823

Of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence only 2nd President

John Adams, (1797-1801) and 3rd President Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) were

still living on Independence Day #183, 4 July 1826, the 50th anniversary of

the Declaration.

They were the only two signers to become President. Adams

of Massachusetts, the "firebrand" of the Rebellion had led the call for

separation from Great Britain supported by his close friend Jefferson.

Adams called for Jefferson to write the Declaration and for Congress to

appoint George Washington as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.

In 1800, the two friends became political enemies due to political party

conflict only renewing their devotion to one another long after their

Presidencies. They both died on Independence Day #183!

"My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they

are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!....Thomas

Jefferson.

"Posterity, you will never know how much it has cost my generation to

preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it."..John Quincy

Adams, 6th President, (1825-1829).

Posterity=all of us, we the people, 2009!

As First President George Washington completed his second term leaving

office, he warned against involving the USA in foreign entanglements and

European wars. Presidents Adams and Jefferson warned against US becoming

imperialists. After a long eight-year war to gain independence, Presidents

Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison prevented the new USA from going to

war for 24 years (1788-1812). Presidents Bush I, Clinton, Bush II and Obama

have had the USA in a constant state of war, (1988-?).

There was no legitimate excuse for the USA entering WWI in 1918,

sacrificing thousands of lives in the "war to end all wars". As usual in

all wars, the only beneficiaries were politicians and war profiteers. It

was inevitable the British and French Allies could win the war without the

USA. It was one more war about the balance of power in Europe. European

Monarchies had been fighting each other, killing off their citizens for over

300 years.

Following WWI, the Allies proposed a League of Nations to prevent future

wars between European powers. It is doubtful, it would have become a

corrupt, worldwide bureaucracy like the United Nations that has accomplished

little in preventing wars since WWII. US politicians refused to join the

League.

When the war ended, Germany became a Democratic-Republic. British, French

and US "statesmen" demanded excessive war reparations from Germany. Greedy

investment bankers, the Bank of England, Rothschild, Morgan Trust, lawyers,

politicians and other unscrupulous wheeler-dealers rushed to Europe

"selling" reconstruction bonds in the 1920's that became worthless with

millions lost.

In the USA, people like the Dulles brothers, the Walker firm,

Sen. Prescott Bush and other Wall Street lawyers, brokers and

investment bankers accumulated fortunes. Germany was economically

devastated by 1932 and the German people turned to godless Nazi mad man,

Adolf Hitler. The result was death and destruction in WWII unlike anything

the Earth had ever experienced with "wars and rumors of wars" continuing

unabated ever since.

Wake up USA on Independence Day #233 and demand your Constitutional

rights! Our Democrat and Republican leaders "compute" new laws, rules,

regulations and "Executive orders" every day that have nothing to do with

the Constitution or it's decree stating their duties and limitations of

power in the Constitution!

"What we obtain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only

that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a price upon its

goods, and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom

not be so highly rated.".Thomas Paine

"Do our candidates today avoid quoting the Founding Fathers because they

are ignorant of the past...probably not. It is more likely they do not want

to compete with the wisdom, honesty and commonsense of those who preceded

them in public service!"....George Adam Jefferson, Phd. (1620-2010), Summa

cum Laude graduate, University of Independence, Professor of The Politics of

Greed, 101, author of the best selling "how to" book: Success in Politics:

Be Like the Three Monkeys, See Nothing, Hear Nothing, Say Nothing That is

the Truth!

Commonsense by George Adam Jefferson, Phd. (a little humor on ID #233):

"Presidents Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, I knew Washington, Adams and

Jefferson...you are no Washington, Adams or Jefferson!" (recalling, Sen.

Lloyd Benson's 1988 statement to Sen. Dan Quayle, "I knew Jack Kennedy and

you are no Jack Kennedy." (No...he was Dan Quayle!)

"A politician's promises are laughable...but nothing to laugh about!"

"Politicians have a right to be heard, so do citizens. No law requires

citizens to take politicians seriously."

"The TV Networks are the tail wagging the political dog."

Author's note: There were unconfirmed rumors in 1776 that DNA tests

indicated George Adam Jefferson was the illegitimate, rabble-rousing son of

a reincarnated Tom Paine!

Are our "public servants" of today wiser, more patriotic, more honest than

the leaders on 4 July 1776? If you believe they are, you have been viewing

too many TV boob tube talking heads that interrupt the TV commercials.

Freedom of choice on election day...demands intelligent, educated choice

and change for the better, not "politics as usual!" When a candidate states

the millions of campaign dollars received from special interests does not

influence how he votes he is a ????

Why would special interests contribute millions to candidates if they did

not expect something in return? It has nothing to do with good government!

The activities our public "servants" in the District of Confiscation are

most efficient at is taxing, borrowing, wasteful spending, incumbency and

accumulating their power, privilege, perks, pay and pensions.

Fiscal Responsibility:

"There is not a more important and fundamental principle in legislation,

than that the ways and means ought always to face the public engagements;

that our appropriations should ever go hand in hand with our promises. To

say that the United States should be answerable for twenty-five millions of

dollars without knowing whether the ways and means can be provided, and

without knowing whether those who are to succeed us will think with us on

the subject, would be rash and unjustifiable. Sir, in my opinion, it would

be hazarding the public faith in a manner contrary to every idea of

prudence."....James Madison, Speech in Congress, 22 April 1790-C30

Love of Country

If we really love our country on this special day, we should put down our

Coke, Pepsi or Bud for a minute and say a prayer for our country that needs

a lot of prayer and thank God for those who provided for this day 233 years

ago!

Being a citizen of the USA, being one of "we the people" is very special.

Citizenship, should never be taken for granted. Millions envy us for what

this day represents. I wish #233 would be another "shot fired heard around

the world" for a new rebellion...in the voting booth.

We should stop blaming the politicians for their evil deeds they are so greedy they do not

know any better. Campaign promises do not solve problems! Fellow citizens,

look in the mirror and place the blame where it really belongs. We vote for

them, we have the government we deserve!

I am ashamed on this day that for 60 years I was a political party

loyalist, activist hoping my efforts would change anything! Every one of

the candidates I worked so hard for, placing my faith in them, never did

what they should have done for our country once they drank from the Potomac.

Not that it matters to you who have read this diatribe this far, but just

for the record I have little patience with those who have lived long enough

to know better and continue to vote to elect another Republican or

Democratic candidate. They are not Boy Scouts!

It would be better to vote for a teenage Scout than what we have as "public servants".

On his honor, a Scout's first duty is to God and his Country! There is no possibility of

reforming these two parties in our corrupt political system.

After three score years, I am a registered INDEPENDENT! I am a member of

the Constitution Party that is working to save our heritage and the original

intent of the Constitution. The Constitution Party candidates for President

and VP defeated all other third party candidates in 2008. Check out the

Constitution Party and its platform at

If enough of us declared our independence the two corrupt parties would

have to face the handwriting on the wall for good government!

The Will of God

The creation of the USA was a creation of a determined higher power.

During the darkest days of the Civil War, where more Americans made the

supreme sacrifice grater than all our war put together, Abraham Lincoln was

asked, "Is God on our side?" His response was, "Are we on God's side?"

During the darkest days of the War for Independence, Revolutionary era

pastors, parishioners, officers and noncom soldiers were convinced God was

on our side. One miracle after another took place during the war against

the most powerful Army and Navy on Earth.

Who can explain how the Minutemen at Lexington and Concord

overwhelmed the British Regulars. It was a miracle when the fog made it

possible for Washington's rag-tag Army to escape after the devastating defeat

at Brooklyn to fight another day when all seemed lost?

Even with one defeat after another, only days later, the Continental

Congress still placed their names on the Declaration of Independence, 233

years ago. It is not possible that the hand of God did not direct the

genius inscribed in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and

its Bill of Rights!

Anyone who reads about the founding era of our country, will discover one

miracle after another with the obvious "hand of God" touching our leaders of

the era. Who can explain how President Washington led this new nation

through those first eight turbulent years when European nations would have

preferred our "experiment in individual liberty would fail?

"And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed

their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these

liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with

His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just:

that His justice cannot sleep for ever."....Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the

State of Virginia, Query 18, 1781.

"It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty

God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to

implore his protection and favors."....George Washington, Thanksgiving

Proclamation, 3 October 1789.

"The Hand of providence has been so conspicuous in all this, that He must

be worse than an infidel that lacks faith, and more than wicked, that has

not gratitude enough to acknowledge his obligations."....George Washington,

letter to Thomas Nelson, August 20, 1778-C3

"Let the pulpit resound with the doctrine and sentiments of religious

liberty. Let us hear of the dignity of man's nature, and the noble rank he

holds among the works of God."....John Adams, Dissertation on the Canon and

Feudal

"The bells of every house of worship of every faith should ring out

joyously on this day reminding all who hear this nation is a nation ordained

and blessed through the ages by the God of our Fathers. The freedom to

subscribe or to deny any faith is the gift of His subjects in 1776!"

Is God on our side? Wake up USA...God is watching us! I suspect He is

shaking his head at our apathy! Stop picking the rotten apples from the

"tree of liberty" that is full of vipers!

God bless the USA on Independence Day #233!
